Life is such a complex word to define that at times I feel it is best left undefined. Somethings should remain a mystery and should be left open for judgement much like the terminology life. Everyone perceives life in a different way, some of us see it as a curse while others see it as a blessing. Life also has a multitude of aspects related to it and these aspects are what complete our judgement regarding the word. Before I dive deeper into the aspects of life let me share a common conception on life which is that ‘we die without having lived at all’. I believe this to be true as it seems that nowadays our bodies are merely puppets controlled to carry out mindless and repetitive tasks. Living no longer has a beauty or charm to it as life is so bland and expected that nothing out of the ordinary happens. We seem to have looped ourselves into continuity causing us to despise the lives we live.
Emotion
“It was the possibility of darkness that made the day seem so bright.”
– Stephen King
Emotion is a huge part of living and is also the core of what makes us human. Emotions are what make us different from the robots we build and are also the determining factor of who we are. Everyday we fight our own battles internally as we struggle to ensure the good side in us always wins. We try to mask our depression with happiness and blind our stress with pleasures. In reality we never fought the darkness but instead we just tricked ourselves into thinking we did. Boys hide their tears in fear of judgement by society, girls hide their pain in fear of being called weak, the disabled fake smiles to prove strength when in fact our emotions should not be governed by others. We all try to copy the billboards and posters to encapsulate a perfect but fake society that has no negatives but this will only function for so long before it all comes crashing down. We should not be obliged to please society in any way as we are our own entities and we have the rights to govern our own emotions regardless of how it will be perceived by the general public.
Love
“I love her, and that’s the beginning and end of everything.”
-F. Scott Fitzgerald
Love is an aspect that truly leaves a sense of wonder in every individual. We seem to always be amazed by its power over the mind. Love comes in many forms sometimes this emotion develops in the time span of a few days while at times it may take years to fully form. The mystery of love is that the feeling embodies us reaping away all other senses causing us to be encapsulated in a realm of fantasy and ecstasy. The sad thing about love is that it is so closely related to betrayal and disloyalty. We give bits of ourselves to our significant other and when that person leaves us, they take the pieces with them. Teenage love is a beautiful wonder and for some of us it will soon end but at times the flame can be rekindled and the relationship can either be a beautiful memory or an ever-lasting relationship. Regardless, love is for everyone and it’s just a matter of when will we truly find our significant other.
Knowledge
“I know that I am intelligent, because I know that I know nothing”
-Socrates
Knowledge is an aspect that plays an important part in our life as the knowledge we obtain is a key that unlocks possibilities for our future. The chase for knowledge is different for each individual but one thing is certain and that is in modern times we chase knowledge we don’t even care for. We study to meet the needs of a workforce, we do it for the money and at times we do it for the status. In reality we should study our passion rather than study for qualification. There shouldn’t be prejudice for what an individual studies but we should instead value an individual for his/her contribution for the betterment of society. The type of knowledge we obtain does not define us, it is the way we use our knowledge that truly matters. Learning is a never ending journey and each day we learn something new in different ways so never think someone is an unintellectual because at the end of the day we are all smart in our own way.
Purpose
“The soul which has no fixed purpose in life is lost; to be everywhere, is to be nowhere.”
―Michel de Montaigne
A sense of purpose is something we all need to go through life as it will act as a sense of hope for a better infinity. Life ends just like everything else but when it does end, we should have a sense of satisfaction of having completed our life goal. We set in stone what we hope to do before the final hour and live our lives towards the goals we set. Everyone has a different purpose but at the end of the day, when we all chase our individualistic goals we end up helping each other at the same time. Without a reason we are insignificant on this planet and only then do we start to question our existence. Always remember a goal doesn’t have to be huge, it can be minuscule but the outcome of the goal may be impactful nonetheless. A child born into poverty can be as successful as a child born with a silver spoon if that child has a goal set in his/her mind at a young age.
Hope
“Strange as it may seem, I still hope for the best, even though the best, like an interesting piece of mail, so rarely arrives and when it does it can be lost so easily.”
-Lemony snicket
Finally life revolves around hope. This may seem a bit cliche but the truth remains that a life lived without hope is a life not worth living to begin with. We rely on hope more than we rely on oxygen because each day we wake up we set a mental picture of how the day will turn out to be and that is the embodiment of hope. We hope for success, wealth, health and the longevity of our loved ones. This hope is what acts as a fuel to push us through in life as hope lets us imagine and imagination brings colour into our life. An individual who has even the slightest notion of suicidal thoughts is an individual that has given up hope. The minute we stop having a sense of hope is the minute we have unintentionally killed ourselves.
And then I realized that to be more alive I had to be less afraid so I did it… I lost my fear and gained my whole life. — Author Unknown
Those to me are the aspects of life that complete my judgement regarding the word. Everyone has different opinions but at the end of the day one thing is certain and that is life is priceless. We shouldn’t waste our life doing something that doesn’t please us so take the time and sit down to rethink your life. Spare a few moments to establish your purpose and life will seem more meaningful. Once you sit down and think about it, you will realise that life isn’t as complicated as it seems. At the end of the day, it’s just another word.
“He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.”
– Friedrich Nietzsche
